Remit Reader FAQ
Does it handle scanned PDFs or just native digital PDFs?
Both. Native digital PDFs (sent electronically by payers) and scanned image PDFs (from paper remits) both work. Scanned PDFs may take a few seconds longer and have slightly lower confidence scores on fields with poor scan quality.
What payers does it work with?
Any payer. The extraction is payer-agnostic — it reads the content of the remit, not a specific template. We’ve validated against Medicare, Medicaid, BCBS, Aetna, Cigna, UHC, Humana, Kaiser, and regional plans. If a new payer format gives poor results, tell us and we’ll tune it.
What if a CARC code is wrong or missing from your registry?
Our registry is seeded from the official X12 CARC list and updated when CMS publishes new codes. If we miss one, the code still appears in your export — just without the plain-English description — and you can report it from the preview screen for us to add.
Does uploaded PHI stay on your servers?
Yes — stored in US-based HIPAA-eligible cloud infrastructure under the BAA, encrypted at rest (AES-256). You can delete any upload from your dashboard at any time, and on termination we purge everything within 30 days. Processing is governed by the BAA; no data is used to train third-party models.
